Marcela Suarez, Olivia Guest and I co-organise a Summer School Critical AI Literacies for Resisting and Reclaiming, June 22-26, 2026, at Radboud University, in The Netherlands.
The Summer School is a 5-day course, designed to foster critical AI literacies and to empower participants to develop ways of resisting or reclaiming AI in their own practices and social context. We welcome students, academics, and professionals from the public sector with an interest in developing their critical AI literacy.
The course set-up will be gentle, making space for self-study, interactive lectures, class discussion, and conversations in smaller groups. Early in the week, participants will learn topics such as ‘what even is AI?’, critical intersectional perspectives on AI, and how does AI related to sustainability, scientific integrity, and other core values. Later in the week, participants will have opportunity to apply what they have learnt into a self-directed group project.
The course assumes no prior knowledge. The only requirement is that participants are interested in critical AI literacies and are willing to conduct a group project on how to resist AI hype in a chosen context.
